Calendar Year 2010 closed with lot of hopes for the coming decade. The year ended with benchmark index sensex closing above the 20,000 mark. Market indicators Sensex and Nifty closed registering 18% growth for the year respectively. The month of December 2010 brought in cheer with Sensex and Nifty closing at 20509 and 6134 points, up 5.06% and 4.64% respectively. The markets were held strong with the confidence of Investors worldwide and in India.

On the sectoral front, Realty was noticeably the only sector showing a negative with its indicex BSE Realty losing 2.36% during December 2010. Metals as a sector showed a turnaround as compared to its last month’s performance with BSE Metals showing 12.6%. Close on heels was IT sector with BSE IT which showed an impressive 11.99% growth. Over the calendar year Automobiles, Banking, FMCG and IT showed up high with the sectoral indices showing above 30% absolute return for the year.
